Sheryl Schmidt, Commissioner



Governor Schwarzenegger appointed Sheryl Schmidt to the California Gambling Control Commission on October 31, 2007. She was appointed as the member required to be a Certified Public Accountant or with experience in banking or finance. She has served the Governor as Deputy Secretary of Veterans Services for the California Department of Veterans Affairs (CDVA) since May 2007 and previously held the position of Deputy Secretary for Women Veterans for the Department from 1996 to 2007. She served as Chief of Audits as Staff Management Auditor at CDVA from 1995 to 1996. Prior to joining CDVA, Schmidt was Associate Manager Auditor for the California State Controller's Office from 1987 to 1995. She served as an Associate for the accounting firm Touche Ross, from 1985 to 1987. Schmidt is a Certified Public Accountant, member of the Qualifications Committee of Certified Fraud Specialists and served as Chair of the AMVETS Women Veterans Committee.
