Brian Gilleland

Brian Gilleland, Deputy Director for Licensing Division

Brian Gilleland joined the California Gambling Control Commission (Commission) on January 1, 2024, as the Licensing Division Deputy Director.

Brian has extensive experience working with the gaming industry. Prior to joining the Commission, Brian worked with the Department of Justice's Bureau of Gambling Control (Bureau) since September 2015, where he served as the Senior Manager of the Third-Party Provider of Proposition Player Services (Third-Party) Licensing Section. As Senior Manager, he directly oversaw the completion of background investigations, represented the Bureau at public meetings, and was involved in the review of regulations that govern the gaming industry.

Brian began his state career with the Bureau as an analyst in September 2015, where he quickly became a lead in the Third-Party Section over the registration program that existed at the time. Brian promoted to Manager in the Third-Party Section in February 2017, where he oversaw the completion of Third-Party background investigations and compliance checks of Third Party Providers. Beginning in September 2019, Brian served as the Acting Senior Manager of the Third-Party Section, and officially assumed the role of Senior Manager in August 2020.

Prior to state service, Brian worked in the specialty construction industry where he held various project management positions.
