Eric C. Heins, Commissioner

Eric C. Heins was initially appointed to the California Gambling Control Commission by Governor Gavin Newsom on January 21, 2021 and reappointed by Governor Newsom on February 4, 2022.

Heins is President at Heins & Associates, LLC since 2019 and also serves as Vice Chair of Public Education for the Common Good, Inc., a newly established non-profit. He is a Visiting Enterprise Fellow at Manchester Metropolitan University, Manchester, UK, since 2020. He was President of the California Teachers Association from 2015 to 2019. Heins was a Teacher at Pittsburg Unified School District from 1990 to 2019. He earned a Bachelor of Arts in Music from Chapman University and a Master of Arts degree in Language and Literacy Education from the University of California, Berkeley.
